Intel and AMD have two different approaches to managing their respective platforms. While Intel’s sockets change every two generations, AMD’s sockets last longer. Even after the release of the AM5, the AM4 continues to receive new processors… That’s saying something. Today, via @Kepler_L2, we learn that Zen 6 will also benefit from the AM5!
Zen 6, also with AM5!
This time, it’s via the X account @Kepler_L2 that we learn that the next generation of processors will take advantage of AM5. While this is not surprising, the information comes from a well-known leaker in the industry.
At the same time, we learn that the next CPUs from the Reds could arrive in late 2026 or even early 2027. In the meantime, we’ll have to make do with the Ryzen 9000 and Ryzen 9000X3D if all this is confirmed. However, for gaming, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D should keep us going for a while. On the other hand, apart from the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D, there shouldn’t be any major CPU launches from the Reds in 2025… As well as for a large part of 2026.
This gap leaves the way open for Intel to come up with something new. Some people are talking about a Panther Lake in 2025/26.
In the meantime, with Zen 6, AMD could unleash an architecture enabling an increase in the total number of cores for its processors. We’re also hearing talk of hybrid architecture with efficient, high-performance cores. While this is already the case on mobile platforms with Strix Point, on desktop platforms, it is not. We’re also expecting improved IPC, smaller node process, the addition of an NPU and a new I/O die.
