Towards an AD103 and 16GB VRAM for the RTX 4070 Super?

Recently, there were rumors that NVIDIA was preparing a graphics card refresh. These dusted-off versions would take the form of RTX 40 Super and integrate an RTX 4070 Super. Today we learn that the card in question will feature a larger GPU and more VRAM than the current model!

RTX 4070: a bigger GPU, but above all, more VRAM!

Of course, nothing has yet been confirmed, but it looks as though the card will come with a bigger GPU. Indeed, the current card features an AD104-250 with 46 SM. This corresponds to 5888 cuda cores, 184 TMUs and 64 ROPs. In terms of memory, the board features 12 GB GDDR6X on a 192-bit memory bus. Memory bandwidth is 504.2 GB/s.

The Super variant may feature a slightly larger GPU, in the form of an AD103. For the moment, we don’t yet know its characteristics. As for memory, we’re talking about 16 GB of VRAM, all on a 256-bit memory bus. All this would contribute to an increase in memory bandwidth.

At the same time, we learn that NVIDIA may well be offering a new version of the RTX 4070. This time, it would be a downgraded version with GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR6X. Inevitably, memory bandwidth will be reduced by the slower VRAM. It remains to be seen what impact this will have on prices… Same question for availability.
