The first gaming performance figures for the RX 9000 series are starting to leak. Once again, VideoCardz has the pleasure of sharing AMD’s official test results. The results show that the RX 9070 XT performs 42% better than the RX 7900 GRE on an average of 30 games! The difference is so great that it makes you wonder why AMD is comparing its 9000 generation with this model!

RX 9070 XT vs RX 7900 GRE

Broadly, we learn that AMD was holding a conference to which our colleagues were not invited. Fortunately, their ‘spy’ was able to pick up some interesting information that the media leaked. In this case, it concerns what interests us most: the gaming performance of AMD’s future cards.

In concrete terms, AMD is comparing its new cards with its current RX 7900 GRE. Unfortunately, there’s no comparison with the RTX 5070 Ti, but it seems that the Reds haven’t managed to get hold of one to carry out in-house tests. It has to be said that this model was released only recently, and in small quantities… What’s more, the choice of comparison with the 7900 GRE raises questions. Is it because it’s a future equivalent in terms of price ($549)? Is it because of a correspondence in terms of the amount of VRAM? Or is it because it’s AMD’s most powerful mid-range card? It’s hard to say.

RX 9070 XT vs RX 7900 GREIn any case, it turns out that, on average, the new-generation RX 9070 XT performs 42% better. As for the non-XT RX 9070, the advantage is also significant, with a 21% increase in performance. It should also be remembered that these differences were found on a large base of games: more than 30 games. This includes games with ray tracing and others without.

In short, with a difference of this magnitude, we can legitimately assume that the XT version will rival an RX 7900 XTX, while the non-XT version will play catch-up with the RX 7900 XT in terms of rasterisation. What’s more, this new generation will have a clear advantage in ray tracing, as AMD had to rework this aspect. What’s more, these results seem to coincide with a card rivalling the RTX 5070 Ti !
