It was rumored at the end of September, but now it’s back in the news: the end of the RTX 4090. In order to prepare for the launch of new generations of cards, NVIDIA may well stop production of current models. In addition to the RTX 4090, we’re also hearing about the RTX 4080 Super.
RTX 4090: end of production in October, RTX 4080 Super in November!
This new rumor is in line with the previous one, which stated that RTX 4090s would see their production cease in October. However, ITHome is talking about another top-of-the-range model: the RTX 4080 Super, scheduled for discontinuation in November. Of course, none of this is official, since the rumor is based on the word of a guy who heard it from another guy working for a manufacturer. In short, it’s all very murky.
In any case, the aim of the maneuver is clearly to prepare the ground for the arrival of the next generation of graphics cards by clearing out the inventories of the current generation. Between now and the launch of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, partners and vendors will have to juggle with the last remaining stocks, which is likely to result in stock-outs here and there.
On the other hand, we expect demand to ease as we reach the end of the cycle for these cards. If you’re going to buy a big card, you might as well wait a few months for the new generation to arrive. Obviously, we’re talking about a CES launch. To be continued.
