Snapdragon PCs = a big fail!

0

Well, PCs equipped with Snapdragon processors have been on the market for some time now, just over a quarter of the way through the year, and they haven’t been as successful as expected. In fact, this type of PC only represents 0.8% of the total market. It’s fair to say that this type of product is struggling to convince.

Snapdragon PCs represent less than one in 125 machines!

Microsoft IA PC

Generally speaking, the market for PCs with dedicated artificial intelligence capabilities is growing. It already accounts for 20% of machines sold, admittedly not 50%, but still a good share, with 13.3 million units sold.

Nonetheless, it is possible that the growth of this type of machine is beginning to slow down or to falter. In a survey of distribution partners carried out in November, 31% of them were not planning to sell AI PCs in 2025, while 34% expected these machines to account for just 10% of their sales volumes.

Despite this, manufacturers are trying to get ahead of the game, either by collaborating with independent software publishers like HP, or by providing proprietary tools directly integrated into the machine, as Lenovo is doing. But let’s not forget the premium prices that come with hardware requirements(CPU with NPU, large amount of RAM, etc.).

Getting back to Snapdragon PCs, they’re a big flop, with low sales volumes, despite an attractive percentage: 180% growth from Q2 to Q3… But it’s worth noting that this platform was only on sale for one full quarter (the third), hence this high percentage. One of the possible reasons for this failure is a poorly optimised software environment, which blurs the advantage of such an offering. Let’s face it, by offering ARM CPUs under Windows, Microsoft wanted to do what Apple had done… But without having such an optimised system.
