From Silverstone, we learn that the brand is unveiling a new case reference that is, to say the least, original. On the one hand, we’re dealing with a model in HTPC format, a format that has been lost for some time. On the other hand, the brand’s design is completely original, with this case opting for a retro look. Welcome to the 90s!
FLP01: a box to fit into a TV cabinet, but with a retro look!
Broadly speaking, the box has a flat format with dimensions of 440 (W) x 362 (D) x 170 (H) mm. In this respect, it is similar to the dimensions of hi-fi equipment such as amplifiers. The aim is simple: to fit the configuration into a TV cabinet. But if you’ve read our review of the Grandia GD11, you’ll already know what type of device we’re dealing with 😉
Internally, we find a flat motherboard tray compatible with SSI-CEB, ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX formats. Of course, there’s no BTF or Project Zero compatibility here. Furthermore, this model will be deep enough to accommodate graphics cards measuring 309 mm in length and 133 mm in height. Unfortunately, unlike the GD11, no watercooling compatibility has been announced.
However, beware of the compatibility of your heatsink, which will not be able to exceed 138 mm in height, while the depth of the PSU is 170 mm.
To allow your configuration to breathe, the case has two 80 mm slots at the rear, two 120 mm slots on the right and one 120 or 80 mm slot on the left.
Finally, one of the special features of this reference is its compatibility with a 5.25″ optical drive, which the GD11 didn’t have. And for added style, Silverstone hides the latter with fake floppy drives. And if you don’t need to read DVDs or Blu-Rays, you can integrate up to four 2.5″ or two 3.5″ storage units.
Once again, we’ll have to wait and see what it costs.
