On March 26, AMD announced its new processor, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2. This model was initially expected at CES, but in the end did not make it to launch. In the meantime, although the CPU has been announced by the Reds, official prices are still a secret. However, two Canadian retailers are highlighting this reference on their sites, with a price of around US$990 once the conversion has been made.
Ryzen 9 9950X3D2: the most expensive Ryzen CPU!
Towards a $999 MSRP?
With this processor, AMD could be announcing the most expensive Ryzen CPU (excluding Threadripper) on the market. Rumor has it that the official MSRP for this model could be US$999… But until AMD announces the official price, speculation is rife. Nevertheless, this would make a significant price difference with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, whose MSRP is $699. Will the performance finally justify an extra $300?
In any case, two resellers list this model: ShopRBC and PC-Canada. Prices are very close, at CAD$1375 and CAD$1374 respectively. After conversion to U.S. dollars, the price comes to around $990.
Two CCDs that make the bill explode?
As a reminder, this processor is a high-end reference. It features a total of 16 cores and 32 threads. While we don’t yet know the boost frequencies, we do know that this model should feature two 3D V-Caches, one per CCD. This is the main innovation compared with the current X3D series. All in all, the CPU is said to boast a colossal amount of cache memory: 208 MB including the L2 cache.
In terms of performance, AMD’s announcement referred to performance gains of up to 13% in AI and simulation, versus 7% in rendering and content creation operations. It remains to be seen what it will actually deliver in tests!
