AMD is currently ahead of Intel in the processor sector. As we’ve seen, on Amazon, the company has numerous references in the TOP 10 best-selling processors. And inevitably, when you offer nothing more than the new king of gaming in the form of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, you have to expect a few minor inconveniences.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D: out of stock, or at prices beyond comprehension!
As we’ve seen, AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology is excellent when it comes to supporting gaming performance. Currently, processors equipped with it are proving to be excellent challengers in this field. However, the addition of this 3D V-Cache has created a series of crazes around AMD’s processors, so much so that the latest, the 9800X3D, is a victim of its own success.
Wherever it is referenced in our comparator, the CPU is displayed as being out of stock or “back in 7 to 14 days”. It’s bad enough that availability isn’t guaranteed, but worse still, some people are taking advantage of this to buy and sell, and making a nice profit in the process: scalpers.
On eBay, there are reports of processors being sold for prices approaching €1,000 by individuals who have entire stacks of CPUs. Of course, these processors are brand new. On the other hand, you can also come across ads that could be construed as scams in some cases. Sellers with a ‘profile zero (review)’, is selling his CPU for €850, twice the official price.
However, the situation isn’t much better on Amazon, where you’ll have to watch out for marketplace shops. Here we have ProComponentes selling the 9800X3D for some €901… Merry …. Christmas (sorry).
In short, the situation is far from rosy, with stock-outs and prices beyond comprehension. However, AMD says it is working with its partners to increase the number of CPU shipments on the market. Normally, we can expect “better availability as shipments increase during the quarter”.
