As you know, the AI market has exploded, putting pressure on supply and demand in the memory sector. DDR5 prices have skyrocketed, driving consumers towards older platforms such as AM4, which supports even cheaper DDR4. It would therefore appear that AMD is considering relaunching the Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
Is the Ryzen 7 5800X3D back?
A “10 Years AMD AM4 Anniversary Edition”!
With AMD recently celebrating 10 years of life for its AM4 socket, this would be a good opportunity for the company to bring back its Ryzen 7 5800X3D. As a reminder, this was the brand’s first X3D processor, the one that established the Reds’ processors in the video game sector. Prior to this, Ryzens were seen as more application-oriented CPUs with a good price/performance ratio.
In any case, with the resurgence of AM4 demand – as we’ve seen, the Ryzen 5 5500 and Ryzen 7 5800X are the most in demand in France and the US – AMD wants to bring its X3D chip back to life. However, the leak shows us a sales brochure written in Chinese. Let’s just hope it’s an early leak in China. If AMD decides to (re)launch its CPU only in China, there’s bound to be some serious grumbling.
A quick reminder of the specifications:
As a reminder, this 5800X3D is a CPU with a total of 8 cores and 16 threads. It features Zen3 cores with frequencies of up to 4.5 GHz in turbo mode, with a base frequency of 3.4 GHz. What’s more, it boasts 96 MB of cache memory, thanks to a 64 MB 3D V-Cache, plus a total of 4 MB of L2 (512 KB per core).
We can only hope that AMD will market its CPU internationally, and that it will also be available in France. There’s also the question of price, since this CPU was due to be launched in April 2022 at $449.
