The AM4 is asocket that has had a particularly long lifespan. In fact, we still don’t know for sure whether it’s truly dead or not. Indeed, motherboard manufacturers continue to release new models (ASRock, MSI, and Gigabyte), while new CPUs keep coming to market. We saw this recently with the Ryzen 5 5500X3D, which launched in the UK. In short, AMD is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its platform!

Yes, AM4 is now 10 years old!

The firstCPUs weren’t even Ryzen!

AM4

When we think of this socket now, we picture the Ryzen 1000 series, which allowed AMD to turn the tide. Remember that before launching its Zen 1 chips, the company was in a dire state, and then the Zen miracle happened. But before the launch of this lifesaving generation for AMD, there was something else dominating the AM4 landscape: the Bristol Ridge APUs based on the Bulldozer architecture… Which, apparently, everyone has forgotten.

In short, all this to say that this socket has had an extremely long lifespan and is still going strong today. Worse yet, the situation in the memory market is even boosting sales, with the Ryzen 5 5500 topping Amazon’s sales charts in the US, while in France, the Ryzen 7 5800X is riding high.

AM5 will follow the same path!

In any case, to celebrate this occasion, Jack Huynh, an AMD official, spoke up:

“With AM4, we built a platform that makes it easy for users to upgrade across multiple generations of processors. And this year, we’re celebrating its tenth anniversary, backed by a full lineup of processors powering millions of systems around the world.”

This same philosophy continues with theAM5 socket. Long-term platform support isn’t just a marketing message for us—it’s a commitment to protecting our customers’ investments while giving enthusiasts a platform that can grow with them.”

The AM5 already has a strong track record, as it currently supports the Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series alongside the 8000G APUs. It serves as the foundation for models that will go down in history, such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, crowned the “king ofgaming” in its day! But that’s not all, as we’re also expecting Zen 6. As for Zen 7, nothing is certain; we imagine it will depend on whenDDR6 and PCIe 6 hit the market.
