We’re still talking about AMD’s forthcoming Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, this time on pre-order at Amazon US. And while the CPU benefits from a particularly high recommended retail price, at Amazon it’s still taking $100. As a result, Americans can pre-order the future spearhead of the reds at a price of $999.
Ryzen 9 9950X3D2: Amazon pre-orders for $999!
$100 more than MSRP!
Officially, AMD is positioning its new spearhead at a price of $899, which is particularly high for a processor sold on the consumer market. In fact, historically, it has overtaken the FX-9590 as AMD’s most expensive CPU in this sector. Unfortunately, the pre-order prices displayed by Amazon US do not reassure us as to the actual prices charged. Indeed, there is often a significant discrepancy between the prices officially recommended by brands and the prices actually charged.
A 16-core model with double 3D V-Cache!
The technical specifications of this processor are particularly meticulous, with a total of 16 cores and 32 threads. In terms of frequency, this CPU will operate at 4.3 GHz as standard, while it can reach 5.6 GHz in turbo mode. But it is distinguished by the integration of two 3D V-Cache arrays, boosting its L3 cache capacity to 192 MB.
With this reference, AMD continues to innovate and, above all, to perfect its mastery of 3D V-Cache. Up to now, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D/7950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D/9950X3D only had a 3D V-Cache layer on one of their two CCDs. Now there’s one 3D V-Cache per CCD!
Not a gaming CPU:
Even though CPUs equipped with this extra memory have proven particularly effective in gaming, AMD’s marketing doesn’t position this model as a gaming CPU. On the contrary, it’s a reference for the professional market. On the day of its announcement, the reds shared a slide with benchmark results featuring it in pro scenarios only!
