RTX 4090D: Zotac has the big one!

As we’ve seen, graphics cards are getting bigger and bigger, especially at the top end of the market. However, in this race, it’s Zotac China that has the biggest, with a 38 cm-long RTX 4090D!

RTX 4090D: a Zotac model 38 cm long!

With this graphics card, Zotac is offering us a disproportionately long card, measuring 38.1 cm in length. It’s also very thick, with three slots high up.

The cooling system is consequently substantial, relying on a steam chamber in direct contact with the GPU and memory. What’s more, we have a trio of 11 cm-diameter fans!

The PCB is of course customized and features a total of 28 power supply phases. Of these, 24 are dedicated to the GPU and 4 to memory.

Having such an imposing board means good cooling… At least, Zotac’s heatsink is well designed. In its review, Ex preview measures maximum temperatures of 63°C under load, peaking at 30.7°C idle. Let’s not forget that the card contains 14,592 cuda cores and offers a TDP of 425W. As for noise, the card runs at 28.2 dB, so it’s pretty quiet!

However, overclocking potential is disappointing. Admittedly, by default, no RTX 4090D is sold with factory overclocking, however, by using third-party software, OC is possible. Nevertheless, our Asian colleagues have only managed to increase the frequency by 240 MHz (2520 MHz by default), compared with 50 MHz for the memory. All this translates into a performance gain of 3.7% or 36,608 pts on Time Spy.

Finally, with such a low OC potential, it’s hard to see why such a model is relevant. Admittedly, the heatsink is efficient, but if you’re looking for a card with low overclocking potential, you might as well go for a more affordable model!
