The information delivered by AMD for the launch of the RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT are really poor. It is difficult to get an idea which opens the door to all the speculations from the “specialists” on social networks. However, it is known that the Radeon RX 7900 XT will reach a Turbo frequency of 2.40 GHz and the Radeon RX 7900 XTX will be at 2.50 GHz. In the past, the frequency of 3Ghz and more has been mentioned but with these official values, the gap seems significant. Especially since recently, a leak from some AMD partners did not announce a positive trend on the subject. Indeed, before the launch, some brands claimed “off record” that the overclocking of future cards only brought a 3% improvement margin with the preliminary drivers. However, PC World, which attended the US presentation of the RDNA 3 cards, was able to talk to the technical teams of the reds. It seems that an AMD representative assured them that Navi 31 was designed to reach 3 GHz.
If the RX 7900s can hit 3Ghz, that changes the game considerably.
For the moment, no reliable information is in circulation about the performance. Between now and the official release date (December 13), it’s likely that AMD will evolve its drivers and possibly unlock some things. If Asus has started to unveil its own versions of RX 7900, we notice that no frequency is communicated. It is also difficult to imagine that PowerColer, which is already teasing one or more RX 7900 Red Devil, could make a proposal with only 3% overclocking…
If this frequency gain was to be confirmed, it is obvious that it would change enormously the technical (and commercial) potential of the RX 7900.
