ASUS is quietly launching a new graphics card, or rather a new version of an existing model. The company is offering a new variant of its Prime RTX 5080. This new reference gains in simplicity, as it loses the steam chamber that constitutes its heatsink. Instead, we find a more basic heatsink at a lower price. Make way for the Prime RTX 5080 Evo!
Prime RTX 5080 Evo: a simpler heatsink!
Same features, but without the steam chamber!
With this card, ASUS retains the dimensions of its original board. This translates into a card measuring 304 mm in length, 126 mm in width and 50 mm in thickness, i.e. 2.5 slots. The casing still features three Axial-Tech fans with long blades to improve airflow. Otherwise, we learn that phase-change thermal steps are still used. However, the insert mentioning the presence of the steam chamber on the product page has disappeared. Instead, a copper base will make contact with the GPU, memory and VRMs.
A factory OC version and a stock model!
This card comes in two distinct versions. The first is a “basic” version. This features reference frequencies with a default boost to 2617 MHz and an OC mode at 2640 MHz. In contrast, we find an OC Edition card. In this case, the default mode boost displays 2655 MHz versus 2685 MHz in OC mode.
Otherwise, in all cases, we find a board featuring a 12V-2×6 power socket coupled with one HDMI 2.1b and three DisplayPort 2.1b outputs.
Unknown invoice:
For the time being, we don’t yet know the retail price of this specific version. However, if the heatsink gains in simplicity, we can reasonably expect a lower price than that of the original version. It remains to be seen how much difference there will be between the two models.
