Let’s face it, with its Threadripper 7000 and Threadripper Pro 7000 processors, AMD is slapping Intel in the face in the HEDT and server/workstation sector. What’s more, these CPUs support overclocking, as we saw in our test. However, in the event of overclocking, the warranty will simply be invalidated!

Roughly speaking, if you try to overclock your CPU, a disclaimer will appear in your bios. This will inform you that the OC will be permanently activated for this processor and that this will invalidate the warranty. Of course, you’ll be able to push the frequencies of your processor without worry, but without the warranty… So in the event of a problem, you won’t be covered.

The reason given by the company is simple: the practice pushes the hardware beyond its factory specifications. What’s more, the OC will also invalidate any manufacturer or vendor warranties.

In short, we’re still wondering what the point is of touting the possibility of OCing your hardware if it’s not covered by the brand’s warranty… It’s not as if AMD doesn’t highlight this fact in its sales brochures..

Fortunately (or unfortunately?), OEM platforms don’t allow you to overclock your CPU, so a priori, there’s no room for error for professionals. What’s more, this seems to apply only to Threadripper Pro and not to the consumer series.
