Nvidia victim of hack, tried to counterattack hackers?

Victim of a ransomware attack and data theft not long ago, Nvidia reportedly tried to attack the hackers.

Nvidia gets hacked and attacks hackers?

Yesterday, the British website The Telegraph reported that Nvidia had been the victim of a computer attack. Subsequently confirmed by other sites, Nvidia said they were investigating an “incident” on internal machines.

The cyberattack that targeted the company was confirmed to be ransomware and that they were, this time, in the process of identifying and assessing the scope of the hack.

But now, while some were already targeting Russia (in light of current events) as the backers, a South American group called LAPSU has claimed to have infiltrated Nvidia and stolen over 1TB of confidential data.

The hacker group had also started leaking personal information, such as employee passwords, before stopping and demanding a ransom to stop the leak permanently.

But the most surprising thing is, that this group of hackers claimed to have their computers attacked by Nvidia, which would have installed in turn ransomware and encrypted the stolen data to make them unusable. However, this counter-attack would not have had any effect on the hackers, who had backups.

The extent of the attack is, of course, not fully known and we will have to wait for the next few days to know the seriousness of the latter.
