NVIDIA to reduce availability of RTX 4060 and 4070 in favor of notebook GPUs

Rumor has it from China that Nvidia is changing its sourcing strategy for RTX 40 GPUs. The aim is to redirect a significant proportion of production toGPUs for the notebook market. On the Chinese market, the concern concerns all desktop PC cards on the retail market. In fact, while the greens will be redirecting their production, they will not be significantly increasing it. This redirection will inevitably lead to a significant reduction in the availability of desktop GPUs for the consumer market. Some local players are even talking of a potential supply shortage.

A preference for Nvidia’s notebooks at the margins?

Others suggest that Nvidia is trying to control volumes to avoid a price drop on all RTX 4060 and 4070 references. By redirecting part of its production to notebook chips, Nvidia would be killing two birds with one stone. By limiting volumes to desktop card production, the greens avoid distributors looking to lower prices to move their inventories. Finally, as notebook GPUs offer higher margins, redirecting production here too would have a beneficial effect on the chameleon’s figures. Controlling supply according to demand is a common strategy used to control prices. Unfortunately, this means that those hoping for a drop to switch to the RTX 40 series will still have to wait.
