MSI Z690 compatible with AMD EXPO memory?

Well, behind this title, you will ask yourself if we have gone crazy? Well, no, but let’s try to put the information in the order in which we received it. First of all, AMD as well as some memory kit manufacturers like Corsair have announced the arrival of DDR5 memory kits with an EXPO profile. At the moment we have not been able to test this technology yet, but it seems that these DDR5 kits have a traditional XMP profile but also an EXPO profile.

As a reminder, the XMP (A-XMP) allows you via the BIOS to automatically activate the characteristics of your memory kit: the frequency, the timings as well as the voltage. The AMD EXPO technology will also allow you to overclock the DDR5 in one click in combination with the Ryzen 7000.

So we imagined that this technology would be intended for AMD DDR5 platforms. But now MSI has announced that the brand’s Z690 motherboards will soon be updated to be iEXPO compatible. It is therefore likely that other manufacturers will follow suit and make DDR5 EXPO memory kits compatible with the Intel Z690 chipset. It is more than likely that this iEXPO profile will also be part of the BIOS of the next Z790 motherboards.
