Like Asus and Gigabyte, MSI is preparing for the launch of 14th-generation Intel processors. At MSI, this takes the form of new motherboards. Here we find the Z790 Max models for the dragon brand.

To accompany the 14th processor generation, MSI is preparing a total of six motherboards, whose part numbers are as follows:

  • MEG Z790 Godlike Max
  • MEG Z790 Ace Max
  • MPG Z790 Carbon Max Wi-Fi
  • MPG Z790 Edge Ti Max Wi-Fi
  • MAG Z790 Tomahawk Max Wi-Fi
  • Pro Z790-A Max Wi-Fi

Among the new features, the first thing to note is the presence of Wi-Fi 7 on all the models mentioned. As a reminder, this new standard enables higher speeds than Wi-Fi 6, with 5.8 Gbps.

The other new feature on all the brand’s models is M.2 with PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. All boards feature at least one of these connectors. So you’re ready to mount Corsair MP700s at the drop of a hat.

Finally, depending on the board, you’ll find a number of different power supply stages. Indeed, the new Godlike boasts a total of 26 2-phase 105A power supplies, while the Pro Z790-A boasts 16 1 1. What’s more, these imposing stages are accompanied by more elaborate cooling systems. MSI sometimes features dual heatpipes with aluminum fins.

Interesting things are also to be found in SSDs. For example, some boards boast thermal pads for both sides of the storage units. Assembly is also simplified, with screwless systems for both SSDs and heatsinks. We’ll mention antennas that do away with the classic screw system (cuckoo Asus) or a new JAF connector allowing aRGB fans to be connected to a single socket.

Last but not least, board connectivity is evolving. MSI is highlighting a greater number of M.2s depending on the model. As for PCIe, there are now up to two PCIe x16 5.0 connectors, while USB 4.0 makes its appearance in the form of AIC!

Now, we’re curious to see what influence these new features will have on the sale price of the boards.
