Microsoft to make announcements: AI, Windows 11 and more on the agenda

Microsoft has just announced that it will be holding a “conference” from May 21-23 in Seattle. Part of the conference will be broadcast live. A number of announcements are expected, including the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) functionalities into Windows 11 (it is no longer known whether Windows 12 will arrive or not). But it doesn’t stop there, with other topics on the agenda including better support for ARM SoCs by Windows and the presentation of a new Surface range.

Satya Nadella will talk about the company’s “vision of AI through hardware and software”.

For many weeks now, the integration of AI into Windows has aroused both fears and hopes. Concerns on the part of competitors that Microsoft could be taking a decisive step in this area, and hopes on the part of the hardware industry that users will soon have to migrate to a new PC featuring a processor armed with an NPU. Little is known at present, but one major feature could be the new Super Resolution mode, boosted by AI, which will improve the fluidity and performance of supported games. Other features will be more traditional, even if they also promise spectacular upheavals. Text recognition, photo applications (Paint?) and even search tools will receive a serious boost. Finally, Microsoft Copilot AI will be nothing less than the integration of a version of ChatGPT into the heart of Windows.

The new Surface range could arrive in 2 stages. First, a new Surface Pro and a new “classic” Surface equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors. A version equipped with an ARM Snapdragon X Elite SoC is also expected. For the moment, it’s a little less clear about the Surface Laptop range, and even less clear about the Studio family.

However, these new devices will feature a new key on the keyboard: the Copilot key. This key will be used to access Microsoft’s virtual assistant, which will be integrated into the AI update for Windows 11.
