HWiNFO64 has its own OSD, but no more Windows XP!

The famous monitoring software, HWiNFO64, has been released in a new beta version. This new version lays the foundations for the software’s future OSD, while abandoning support for Windows XP.

HWiNFO64: an integrated OSD!

Simply put, an OSD (On-Screen Display) is an additional display superimposed on your main display. It’s especially handy if you want to monitor your system and keep an eye on component temperatures or frequencies.

The v7.73-5370 beta version of the software provides its own system, so there’s no need to go through yet another utility like RivaTuner Statistics Server, for example. But… being in beta phase, this feature is a little temperamental, to say the least.

Firstly, it’s tricky to set up, since to take advantage of it, you need to launch the software from a secure Program Files folder, and the software is only available as a portable version, not as an installer. The best solution, therefore, is to use an installer version of the software and copy the beta executable into the installation folder and launch it from there.

Then, in practice, there are quite a few bugs… Sometimes you end up with empty graphics, sometimes the OSD disappears… When it doesn’t remain permanently displayed even if you’ve closed the software you wish to monitor. In short, this feature needs a bit of work, but it lays the groundwork. The free version of the software allows you to display just five custom values and corresponding real-time graphs, whereas the pro version offers unlimited values.
