We are gradually finding ourselves in a situation where DDR4 memory prices are rising faster than those ofDDR5. This is what Danawa Research found in a recent study of DRAM prices. In fact, prices for Samsung’sDDR4 have risen by nearly 20% in one month, compared to 10% forDDR5. Needless to say, the surge in demand for this standard isn’t helping matters.

Nearly a 20% price increase in one month!

More specifically, Samsung’sDDR4 memory has seen a significant price increase, outpacing that of DDR5 over the past month. Danawa Research reports a 19% price increase for the older standard, while the new standard has seen a 10% price increase. However, we don’t know if this applies to a specific kit or if it’s a widespread increase. In any case, it affects 16 GB modules—which are actually fairly standard capacities.

A single module currently costs $126!

More specifically, over the course of one month, the retail price of this memory standard rose from 162,000 won (about $106) to 193,130 won (about $126). If we do the math, that represents an increase of nearly $20—18.87% to be precise. In contrast,DDR5 has seen a more moderate price increase of about 10%, with the price rising by 33,100 won (~$22).

The reason behind this price increase is simple: demand for the older memory standard is on the rise again. It’s worth noting that, until now, demand had been lower, but things are changing. As for Intel, we can expect a new generation of processors compatible with this type of memory on the LGA-1700 socket. AMD, for its part, has relaunched its Ryzen 7 5800X3D, while new AM4 motherboards are being released regularly. Naturally, all of this makes the memory attractive; production remains low, and prices are rising.
