Yesterday, we covered quite a bit of news related to Chinese memory manufacturers: YMTC and CXMT. The former made headlines because one of its SSDs was found in a Lenovo PC. As for the latter, it was because itsRAM was fully supported by MSI’s new BIOS updates. Today, we’re learning that Lexar might be incorporating CXMT memory into its Thor RGBDDR5RAM lineup. We’re also expecting some pretty impressive speeds!

Two known configurations?

For now, this news is coming to us in the form of reports rather than an official announcement from the brand. In any case, it appears that two kits are currently in development at the company. These would be two dual-channel kits, each with a memory capacity of 32 GB spread across two modules. In terms of speeds, one kit would reach up to 7200 MT/s, while the second would hit 7600 MT/s. As for timings, the CAS Latency is reportedly CL38. In any case, the fastest kit would carry the part number LD5U16G76C38BV. The report also indicates an operating voltage of 1.40V.

Is the RAM already overclocked in MSI’s validation tests?

In MSI’s validation screenshots, one of them highlighted Lexar memory. So it’s not impossible that these are kits currently in development that were overclocked to see how they performed and how the entire system behaved overall.

In any case, we expect more manufacturers to opt for Chinese memory, especially ifRAM shortages persist over time. However, CXMT RAM was previously used mainly in kits operating at so-called“mainstream” speeds of around 6,000 MT/s. Here, we’re looking at a significant increase in frequency.
