Arrow Lake-S : no Hyperthreading ?

0

Arrow Lake-S will be Intel’s next-generation desktop processor. Intel will offer processors with up to 24 cores… But no hyperthreading, according to the latest rumors. Likewise, the AVX-512 instruction set would not be supported.

Arrow Lake-S: no hyperthreading or AVX-512!

As a reminder, with this next generation Intel will be inaugurating a new socket that is already well known: the LGA-1851. In fact, some cooling brands are already announcing compatible models. In addition to this socket, new chipsets will also be offered by Intel with the Z890, H870, B860 and H810. In short, more details on the future platform here.

Finally, the latest rumors point to processors without hyperthreading. This rumor comes from @InstaLatX64, who spotted a CPU of this future generation on a test platform. Clearly, the number of cores and threads is identical. The CPU in question also lacks AVX-512 support.

Now it remains to be seen why Intel would remove hyperthreading from these CPUs. It could be that the blue guys don’t think HT is worth the effort on this generation for consumer use, for example. Or quite simply, they don’t want to vampirise their Xeon range with CPUs offering similar performance in pro applications with cheaper CPUs, for example. Incidentally, this would also coincide with the withdrawal of support for AVX-512 instructions. All this would also enable us to offer CPUs with lower power requirements and less complexity. We’re thinking in particular of the simpler thread predictor.

In short, something to watch… Normally, this generation of processors should arrive this year.
