New rumors from AMD and its new Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 and Ryzen 7 9850X3D processors. According to the latest rumours, AMD is exploiting a new stepping technique to favour high frequencies. The objective is clear: to be at ease on both multi-threaded and single-threaded tasks. As a result, we’re hearing talk of 6 GHz being achievable on the brand’s new 16-core CPU.
Ryzen 9 9950X3D2: 6 GHz possible thanks to revised CCDs?
The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is basically the same processor as the 9800X3D. However, it benefits from higher frequencies, up to 5.6 GHz. Nevertheless, it retains the same features as the original 9800X3D.
As for the 9950X3D2, there’s a real improvement in terms of technical specifications, since the CPU is equipped not with one, but with two 3D V-Cache arrays. This means a total of 192 MB of cache. As for frequency, the boost would still be 5.6 GHz, although the possibility of pushing this model to 6 GHz has been raised… Certainly thanks tooverclocking. Nevertheless, we’ll have to see how the processor behaves with its two layers of 3D V-Cache.
In any case, AMD is rumoured to be exploiting new CCD stepping to achieve such results. Another rumor is that the lower-quality CCDs would be recycled to offer a new six-core Zen 5 processor, possibly a Ryzen 5 9650X.
The Reds’ aim would therefore be to offer CPUs with higher performance than current Ryzen X3Ds, while outperforming non-X3D models in all scenarios: applications and video games. In the meantime, we can reasonably expect an announcement at CES in early 2026, especially as the 9850X3D appears on the Reds website.
