We’ve talked about it here several times: two new Ryzen X3D processors are about to arrive. The first, to be known as the 9850X3D, would have virtually identical specifications to its big brother, the difference being a gain in frequency. The CPU would still have 8 cores and 16 threads, a base frequency of 4.7 GHz and a boost to 5.6 GHz. Unchanged, it would feature a 96 MB L3 cache plus 8 MB L2. Its TDP is said to be 120 W. Over the past few hours, the processor has been tested under Geekbench 6 and Passmark. Initial results show a significant performance improvement of over 20% compared with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, with a much more modest 5% gain over the 9800X3D.

Ryzen 7 9850X3D: the benefit of “simple” overclocking?
We must remain cautious about these first leaked gains. While the technical specifications of the next Ryzen 9850X3D clearly suggest that no major upheavals are in store(unlike the 9950X3D2?), the benchmarks revealed are nonetheless subject to caution. Indeed, there’s nothing to suggest that either the firmware or the motherboard bios are up to scratch. Finally, the new Ryzen’s performance may have been hampered by power consumption limits. In any case, owners of the current 9800X3D can rest easy, especially as the latest versions in circulation are a little more docile when it comes to overclocking. The real question, then, will be the price of this newcomer. Will it replace the 9800X3D with the same price positioning (mechanically lowering the latter)?
We’ll have to wait until the beginning of January 2026 and the CES show in Las Vegas, when AMD is due to officially launch these two Ryzens.
