If you thought you were the king of gaming performance with your Ryzen 7 9800X3D, things could be about to change. Indeed, we’re hearing rumors that AMD may well be offering two new processors in the near future. We’re talking about the hypothetical Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 and Ryzen 7 9850X3D. These CPUs are shaping up to be quite monstrous, especially given the damage the 9800X3D has done to Intel!
Ryzen 9 9950X3D2: a double 3D V-Cache stack!
If reports are to be believed, the 9950X3D2 is truly the most innovative processor yet. It features not one, but two 3D V-Cache die. Compared with a Ryzen 9 9950X, the amount of L3 is x3 (192 MB). But the other advantage is that both CCDs benefit from this extra memory. At present, 3D V-Cache is only present on one of the CCDs. So, if applications are processed by cores with more or less cache, performance will vary. Baron talks about this very well in this article.
Otherwise, the base frequency is lower than that of the Ryzen 9 9950X, with a base frequency of 4.3 GHz and a boost to 5.6 GHz. As for price, that’s where it’s at, as we’re talking about an MSRP of $799, or $100 more than for the original 9950X3D.
A less original Ryzen 7 9850X3D :
In the case of the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, we’re dealing with a less original CPU, since it’s no more and no less than an overclocked 9800X3D. But we’re talking about a significant frequency gain of 500 MHz all the same. Yes, this CPU runs at 5.6 GHz on boost. Typically, this CPU promises to be quite the bomb in video games, even though the 9800X3D was already quite performant!
The CPU is said to be equipped with a CCD with a matrix of 3 V-Caches, for a total of 96 MB of L3. It would also have 8 cores and 16 trheads, and that’s it. That’s all we know for now. Of course, expect a higher price tag than the 9800X3D.
