By October Microsoft will force the installation of Copilot AI if at least one of the Office 365 applications is installed on your machine. Of course, there are a few exceptions, but overall, there doesn’t seem to be any way to prevent this installation. If you don’t use AI and its features, you’ll have to live with this Clippy 2.0.

Copilot AI: forced installation from October!

If your PC contains an installation of Word, Excell or PowerPoint, you’re all set for a forced installation of Copilot AI. Copilot AI will act as an access hub for the main AI functionalities deployed throughout the Office suite. In short, it’s meant to be practical… But forced. Deployment should be finalised sometime around mid-November.

In short, if you’re a regular user, you won’t avoid it. Only people living in Europe (European Economic Area) and companies via their IT administrator will be able to. So if you’re an expatriate, you’re out of luck… unless you’re using these functionnalities already.

Microsoft is therefore proceeding with a forced installation, one imagines, to then boast about the lightning adoption of AI in the home. It’s also a way for the brand to make even more money. In fact, the company has taken the liberty of increasing its prices by 43% by including Copilot in its 365 subscriptions.

Of course, this is a way for Microsoft to recoup the massive investments it has made in this sector, but some fear that this AI bubble could burst. A number of companies have banned AI from their modus operandi. And if it does, it could leave a number of companies out in the cold on the one hand. From Microsoft to NVIDIA, the economic consequences will be massive.

On the user side, it’s yet another potentially useless piece of software installed on their PC… So if you use it, great, if not, you’ll just have to live with it, even if it means not using it.
