Siri gets on your nerves, Alexa gets on your nerves… Not sure you’re going to like the “Hey Copilot” that’s coming to Windows 11. Microsoft has begun introducing a trigger phrase for members of the Windows Insiders programme to quickly activate Copilot on Windows 11. This means that your PC must be set up to listen to you at all times. You might say that, often with Windows 11, the PC seems to be listening but doesn’t understand a thing… But in this case, Microsoft seems determined to get you to use Copilot. After introducing a physical key on the keyboard of Copilot+ PCs , now there’s a ‘wake-up phrase’.

Obviously, nothing will be mandatory. Even if activating this feature is child’s play, you still need to configure it manually. It will therefore not be active by default (at least for the time being).
How do I talk to Windows?
First of all, make sure your Copilot application is up to date, with version 1.25051.10.0 or later. Then all you have to do is activate this option in the settings menu. Once the adjustments have been made, a microphone icon will appear discreetly at the bottom of the screen. Say “Hey Copilot!” to wake up your assistant, who will signal that he’s ready to listen to you with a soft sound.
As is often the case with Microsoft, this new feature is being introduced in stages. As mentioned above, for the time being, only members of the Windows Insider programme will be able to take advantage of it. Which means you’ll have to speak to your Windows in English. Finally, there’s a small detail that’s going to really upset you… Although Microsoft promises that the keyword detection is only done locally, the request won’t be successful if your PC isn’t connected to the internet.
