A new bios released by Asus gives its RTX 5080 ROG Astral version, 25% more power than the reference GeForce RTX 5080 graphics cards. Thanks to this update, the RTX 5080 can now take advantage of a more generous power supply (50W). This should logically translate into an ability to maintain higher clock speeds, offering a notable boost for demanding applications, whether video games or multimedia creation work. The aim seems relatively easy to understand: to make the card more competitive. For the moment, only Asus and only Astral models have this bios.

Will the new bios for the RTX 5080 Astral give it wings?

New bios: 50W more, the party’s crazier?

During our test, we expressed our frustration when it came to overclocking because of the power limitations imposed by Nvidia. So this bios is potentially good news. Obviously, this power boost will have repercussions. Increased power consumption generates more heat, which can place greater demands on the cooling system. This is clearly why only Astral models are concerned. Owners of the card will have to make a trade-off between increased performance and increased fan noise, and may need to check that their case provides sufficient ventilation to dissipate the extra heat.

The 5070 Ti coming soon?

If this bios comes out, it won’t be without a green light from Nvidia to Asus. The main reason is clearly the Reds’ competition, and in particular the RX 9070 XT. So what are we to make of a possible magic bios, in the next few days, for the RTX 5070 Ti? These cards have the same GPU (GB203) as the RTX 5080s. We’ ve seen that they have good overclocking potential, and a base TDP of 300W… Needless to say, with a little vitamin treatment (and availability), they could make a serious comeback.

For the moment, we haven’t yet been able to assess the benefits of this new bios on the RTX 5080, but without having a crystal ball, we’re thinking that it would make the most sense on the 5070Ti.
