On NVIDIA’s front, we learn that the software is still causing problems. Admittedly, successive 572.xx drivers have corrected problems with the RTX 50, but users of older series have been left out in the cold. This is particularly true of the RTX 40 and RTX 30. Tom’s Hardware has compiled a short list of the most common problems!
572.xx: but what is NVIDIA doing for RTX 40 and RTX 30 users? Not much…
It’s true that at the launch of the RTX 50, NVIDIA encountered a number of problems, notably in relation to recurring black screens and other issues. In order to correct these teething problems, the brand then concentrated on the series via various driver and hotfix releases. However, the oldest series are clearly being left behind. The change notes mention fixes aimed primarily at new-generation cards.
As a result, RTX 40 users have been left out in the cold, and the lack of communication from the Greens does little to calm the dissatisfaction from owners of older cards. In particular, the latter are complaining of bugs when they use the brand’s recent technologies. We’re talking about DLSS Frame Generation when coupled with G-Sync, for example.
The symptoms can range from simple crashes and BSODs to freezes and reduced performance. As for the games affected, they are varied, but we’re hearing in particular about God of War: Ragnarok, Alan Wake 2 and Cyberpunk 2077.
With no response and no fixes from NVIDIA, workarounds had to be found. It is possible to avoid the problems by switching to an older driver such as the GeForce 566.xx, but you lose the benefit of the latest features and supported games. Alternatively, some users have found improvements by using an older version of DLSS, switching off Frame Generation or G-Sync.
In short, yet another task added to the Chameleon’s to-do list that tarnishes the company’s image!
