Windows 11 performance patch for Ryzen arrives

AMD will release a patch next week addressing performance issues experienced with Ryzen processors in Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system. Some time ago, we told you that AMD Ryzen processors were facing a performance degradation of up to 15% after an upgrade to Microsoft Windows 11. The problems were related to L3 cache latency and UEFI CPPC2 profiles.

AMD and Microsoft will push a solution on October 19 and 21

To resolve these issues, AMD and Microsoft quickly announced that they would roll out updates before the end of October.

  • The L3 cache latency issue has been resolved by Microsoft and will be rolled out as part of an update on October 19.
  • A general deployment of a driver fixing the CPPC issue by AMD is expected on October 21.

Logically after these two steps, the updates will solve the majority of the problems encountered in Windows 11 on PCs equipped with AMD’s Ryzen processors (on both desktop and mobile platforms). It took very little time for Microsoft and AMD to propose a solution together. Given the recent arrival of Windows 11, it is likely that other episodes like this will occur in the coming weeks. It should also be noted that for the average user, this degradation was often imperceptible. AMD announced “an expected performance impact of 3-5% in affected applications, 10-15% are possible outliers in games commonly used for eSports”. However, this story is still a mess when Microsoft has not ceased to boast the performance gain that Windows 11 will provide compared to its predecessor
