If the forthcoming launch of NVIDIA’s RTX 50s is already having an impact on desktop graphics card ranges, it will also have an effect on the mobile sector. This morning, we learned from our Chinese colleague that all RTX 40s will be discontinued after the launch of the new cards… All except one: the mobile RTX 4050!
RTX 4050 mobile, the only survivor!
Indeed, of the mobile RTX 40s that will undergo a major replacement by the RTX 50s, it’s really only the entry-level that will remain. The reason is simple: even with an RTX 5050, the little 4050m won’t be such a threat as to swallow up sales of the newcomer.
Early reports indicate that the entry-level Blackwell will benefit from a small GB207, as well as 8GB of GDDR7 memory, all on a 128-bit bus. On the other hand, the little 4050 for notebooks boasts just 6 GB of GDDR6 on a 96-bit bus. It’s a safe bet that the difference in performance between the two cards is significant – at least, enough for NVIDIA to have decided to retain its current model.
Finally, again according to ITHome, we learn that the RTX 5050 could arrive as early as CES in early 2025. Stay tuned.
