To buy an RTX 5090 in Taiwan, you have to buy 40 motherboards

RTX 5000s are on back-order just about everywhere in the world – sadly, that’s just the way it is. However, the sales practices surrounding these cards are dubious and sometimes border on the ridiculous. We saw this at Auto Buy, where if you wanted to buy an RTX 50 you’d be put in a queue, and to win places you’d have to buy different components. If you’re planning to buy a complete PC, why not, but if you just want the graphics card… not so great. Today we learn that retailer Deyuan Computer is offering a Gigabyte RTX 5090 bundled with 40 H610M-K-DDR4 motherboards.

RTX 5090: in Taiwan, you can buy 40 motherboards for one graphics card!

Clearly, we’re wondering whether the intention behind this announcement is really to sell hardware. After all, who in their right mind would buy 40 cards, and dated ones at that, to get a graphics card? Especially as the price isn’t even attractive, as you can see, the advert is listed at $191,500 NTD. After conversion, that works out at around €5,390. If you can find cards at equivalent prices on eBay, the question is what you’re going to do with these 40 motherboards.

Reselling them seems a perilous proposition, given that this is a truly outdated entry-level model. Few people would be interested. Clearly, this is a move to get rid of a stock of motherboards that has become cumbersome.

Fortunately, in France, we don’t have to deal with this kind of practice… At least not to our knowledge. The regular shops are retail outlets, and bundles of this kind are non-existent… Well, bundles where they sell you 40 motherboards, that is. Otherwise, it’s quite possible to come across ‘upgrade kits’ from time to time, a ‘reasonable’ bundle of components including a motherboard, CPU and RAM, with a small discount in the process.
