This is a very, very interesting article that our Swedish colleagues at Nordic Hardware have just put online. The article was written by Tobias Bergström, better known in overclocking circles by his nickname ‘Rauf’. He tells us about his experience of extreme overclocking of a GALAX RTX 5090D HOF graphics card. The report is fairly educational, covering the principles of overclocking, the hardware needed for XOC (extreme overclocking), the importance of having an optimised OS and the right software, and finally his extreme overclocking session with LN2.
For those who still think that extreme overclocking is a piece of cake, you can’t do without reading this article. Rauf explains in detail the difficulties encountered with the GALAX RTX 5090D HOF, but which are common to all RTX 5090′s. During tests under LN2, it was impossible to lower the temperature to the maximum, as it suffered from operating problems, cold bug and/or cold boot, from -40°C onwards. He also explains the difficulty of managing this temperature, bearing in mind that the card goes from consuming 150 watts to 1000 watts when the benchmark is run, which is why it’s important to know exactly how each benchmark runs.
If you’re a fan of overclocking and especially cold testing, this is the article of the day to check out.
