The GT 730 comes back to life!

This morning I woke up on January 21, 2025, ready to work like any other day. However, I was far from expecting a Chinese manufacturer to resurrect NVIDIA’s GT 730. As a reminder, this little entry-level card saw the light of day in 2014. Eleven years later, this model is back in production at Maxsun, while the brand recently launched Intel’s Arc B580 and Arc B570 models!

Maxsun resurrects the GT 730!

The company is announcing two models, the MS-GT730 PH 4G and MS-GT730 PH 2G, cards equipped with 4 and 2 GB of VRAM respectively. These models are priced very aggressively, at around forty euros after yuan conversion!

As a reminder, these GPUs take advantage of NVIDIA’s Kepler architecture with a GK208 GPU containing 384 cuda cores. In terms of frequency, the cards run at 902 MHz. In terms of memory, we find 2 and 4 GB of GDDR3, all with a 64-bit bus. Finally, we have a TDP of 50 and video outputs based on VGA, DVI and HDMI 1.4!

Clearly, these are low-cost cards whose role is limited to display. Finally, at this stage, we might as well turn to the iGPUs of recent processors, which will perform better without causing any security problems. Yes, security is also a problem when dealing with old hardware. In fact, the latest drivers published by NVIDIA for this model date back to 2021, while the latest security updates were released in 2022.

Finally, it’s worth pointing out that these cards are the result of a renaming of the Heavy Hammer series, which simply underwent a name change. The cards are compact, with two slots and a length of 185 mm. They also feature an ultra-simplistic heatsink made from a simple machined aluminium block. At the same time, that’s all it takes to dissipate 50W!
