The AM4 socket continues to dominate MindFactory sales

After talking about the success of AMD’s RX 7800 XT on MindFactory, this time we’re going to focus on motherboard sales. Despite more modern platforms like the LGA-1700 and AM5, the AM4 is still the best-selling socket in the industry!

The AM4 is MindFactory’s best-seller!

Once again, the AM4 platform is the best-selling socket on MindFactory. In week 36 of 2023 (September 4 to 10), MindFactory sold no fewer than 1,070 motherboards equipped with this socket. Next came the AM5 with 850 units sold, followed by the LGA-1700 with 610. The last platform mentioned is the LGA-1200, with just 30 boards sold.

In terms of figures, we find a total of 1920 AMD motherboards sold, representing 75% of sales volume. Intel, on the other hand, sold 640 boards for a market share of 25%. In terms of sales, @TechEpiphany reports €315,736 (70.54%) for AMD versus €131,848 (29.46%) for Intel. Clearly, in terms of sales, the average price per motherboard is higher for Intel than for AMD. In fact, the blues represent just over 29% of sales for a 25% market share.

So why does AMD sell so many older-generation boards? Quite simply, the price. The AM4 is at the end of its life and, in principle, there will be no new processor on the market. The price therefore tends to fall. Especially as AM5 cards are still expensive, at least for a decent card.

Let’s finish with the best-selling models:

  • MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus in AM4
  • MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk Wi-Fi in AM5
  • MSI Z790 Tomahawk Wi-Fi in LGA-1700

Once again, the same conclusion as for AMD’s 7800 XT: these figures only represent the sales of one vendor, however large, in one country.
