Ryzen 9000X3D launched at the same time as Intel Arrow Lake-S?

With the launch of the Ryzen 9000 only a matter of hours away, AMD may well decide to bring forward the arrival of the 9000X3D as well. Until now, the expected timetable for the Ryzen 9000X3D was January 2025, during CES. The most convincing leak comes from MLID, which argues that the X3D versions of the new Ryzens will be launched at the same time as the new Intel processors.

What to expect from the Ryzen 9000X3D?

The future AMD Ryzen 9000X3D processors, expected in the third quarter of 2024, are an evolution of the current range, using Zen 5 architecture under the codename Granite Ridge. Like the previous generation, they will be boosted by a significant amount of cache. This is thanks to the use of AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology, which superimposes an additional cache directly onto the processor chip. This technology has been shown to dramatically improve performance in games and applications by reducing memory latency. To counter Intel, in the series of rumors announced, these X3D processors, like the others, will retain the same price positioning as the current range.

On Intel’s side, the game looks set to be a tense one, as the blues are eagerly awaited. The Arrow Lake-S represent an attempt to regain technological leadership with innovations in engraving and hybrid architecture, aimed at offering greater energy efficiency and performance. Doubts remain as to the potential of these newcomers. A persistent rumor has it that hyperthreading will be absent…but a high-end configuration with 24 Cores (16 8). In another major contrast with Gen 14, power consumption is expected to fall sharply, especially in PL2 and PL4 modes. In PL1, power consumption is capped at 125 watts, while in PL2 it is limited to 177 watts. Finally, in PL4, power consumption would drop from 420 to 333 watts. Given that Intel has maintained its lead in terms of frequency by freeing up power and consumption (with some consequences), the confrontation between the two giants will be particularly interesting to follow.
