Ryzen 7000X3D : still problems with Asus and Gigabyte boards!

For the record, the reports of Ryzen 7000X3D dying because of too high voltage are multiplying. The cause is clearly identified: a too important SoC Voltage applied on these processors which literally makes them cook. If AMD indicates that you should not exceed 1.3V, the brands Asus and Gigabyte still do not seem to be able to do it… And this, despite several batches of bios.

Ryzen 7000X3D: Gigabyte bios that don’t keep their promise!

Souci BIOS et Ryzen 7000X3D dead, mort prématuréeSince the time, this case is still not solved, at least at Asus and Gigabyte. As for MSI and ASRock, obviously, there doesn’t seem to be a severe problem… At least, we haven’t had any feedback in that sense. But things can change quickly.

Getting back to the facts, the release of new bios does not seem to solve the problem at Gigabyte. The media HWBusters conducted some tests comparing old and new versions of Gigabyte’s UEFI. With an F7 bios (old version), on an Aorus Master X670E coupled with a Ryzen 9 7950X3D, our colleagues noted a VCore_SOC of 1.042V without AMD Expo. When the EXPO profiles are active, this voltage goes through the roof and reaches 1.416V. We are clearly above the limitations imposed by AMD.

Unfortunately, the update to the F10d version of the bios still does not solve the problem. Despite the brand’s promises, the maximum voltage measured is still higher than the 1.3V of AMD. In these conditions, our colleagues read 1.361V on the VCore_SOC.

Asus in trouble!

On the side of Asus now, the bios proposed by the brand do not seem to correct the problem. In addition, the brand is also in turmoil because of the publication of bios called “beta”. The concern behind this, and until now, a beta version could blow the warranty. In this case, what is the point of proposing a solution, ineffective, which in addition to that, cancels the warranty?

Fortunately, the company is backtracking and via an official statement indicates to take in guarantee :

  • Cards updated with a beta bios and those with a fully validated version
  • Cards with EXPO, XMP and DOCP profiles enabled

Hopefully, this will ease the tension around the manufacturer. Moreover, the company is planning new bios, hoping that the problem will be definitively corrected on their side.
