Memory prices are driving up the price of PC components, even graphics cards. In fact, rumor has it that AMD has raised the price of its RX 9000s following the recent surge in VRAM prices. There’s talk of a 30% price hike for GDDR6, enough to trigger a reaction from the Reds.
RX 9000 prices about to rise?
If a post on the Board Channel forum is to be believed, AMD has already implemented a price increase in October. However, this anecdotal increase was not reflected in the final price of the boards – in fact, it was completely painless. The new price increase, however, is likely to affect all cards.
Of course, what sows doubt, once again, is that this increase has not yet been announced in any concrete way. The decision is said to have been taken internally at AMD and, if confirmed, should be reflected in the price of future GPU and memory deliveries from the brand.
Once again, this is difficult news to anticipate, since the amount of the increase is not known. All the more so as it comes at the wrong time, since RX 9000s are currently at rock-bottom. We’ve seen promotions for the RX 9070 XT at €599 and the RX 9060 XT 16GB at €360. In this case, the increase would add to prices that are just beginning to reach their normal theoretical level.
For now, all we can do is wait and see. Nor is it far-fetched to think that if AMD has to raise its prices, NVIDIA should too. Admittedly, the RTX 50s don’t use the same type of memory, but with the Green’s products becoming more popular, both on the consumer and professional side, we wouldn’t be surprised if there were a strain on GDDR7 supplies either.
