There’s no need to introduce Edward Snowden, who was such an important figure in the 2010s for his revelations about mass surveillance by the NSA when it had no mandate to do so. Recently, however, he spoke out on a subject of greater interest to us: RTX 50s. In a tweet, he said that these cards do not offer a good quality/price ratio, talking about ” F-tier value for S-tier prices “.
Snowden slams NVIDIA’s RTX 50s!
In broad terms, we’ll just say that he’s not happy with what NVIDIA’s RTX 50s have to offer. Clearly, he’s criticising the clearly conservative amount of VRAM on the Chameleon’s cards. In his opinion, the RTX 5090 should have come with more VRAM with 48GB configurations or even more. As for the RTX 5070, he would have appreciated a card with at least 16 GB, while he points out that :
“Selling a card for more than $1000 in 2025 is a monopolistic crime against the consumer”.
In reality, we can’t completely prove him wrong. Indeed, NVIDIA’s competitors are offering hardware with more VRAM. Just look at Intel, whose B580 has 12 GB of memory. The B580 is an entry-level card priced from $250 in the US, and it has as much memory as the Chameleon’s $549 5070. As for AMD, it’s the same story: the Reds are pretty generous with memory, and they need it to stand out from the greens. The RX 7900 XT already has 20GB of VRAM, whereas the RTX 4070 Ti/Super had 12/16GB of memory.
It remains to be seen what will happen with more affordable cards like the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti. However, the first registrations with the EEC seem to indicate configurations with 8 and 16 GB of memory… Enough to make Snowden very angry once again!
