The more time goes by, the more new problems the RTX 50s reveal. After problems with bricked cards (NVIDIA is on the case, by the way) and melted power cables, we now have boost problems. In some cases, cards are stuck at 750 MHz. Andreas Schilling, editor at HardwareLUXX, came across this problem.
RTX 5080s and RTX 5090s now stuck at 750 MHz..
On his X account, the editor posted a screenshot showing an open GPU-Z window with a 3DMark running behind it. However, if you look at the GPU frequency box, you can see that the GPU is stuck at 750 MHz, and has been for some time. Despite these low frequencies, the GPU and interface bus are being used at 100%, which makes no sense.
To solve his problem, he says he reinstalled the driver several times and even switched from one graphics card bios to another, but nothing helped. It was only after a clean uninstall via DDU and yet another driver installation that the card started to work properly again.
What’s more, our Spanish colleagues at El Chapuzas Informatico have informed us that he is not the only one in this situation. Clearly, there could be a problem of incompatibility between the NVIDIA driver and third-party frequency/voltage control software.
We therefore recommend disabling the voltage control and disabling the monitoring of third-party software (Afterburner, GPU Tweak, etc.) and returning the driver to its default settings. Then restart the PC and the problem should be solved.
It would appear that there are some minor incompatibility problems between frequency/voltage monitoring/management software and the NVIDIA driver. Another theory is that NVIDIA is blocking these changes for reasons to do with the high power consumption of the cards. It remains to be seen whether the latest driver, published in the meantime, does not implicitly correct this problem.
