Review: Corsair MM700 3XL RGB

Test

It is now time to focus on the “Test” part of the MM700 3XL RGB from Corsair. We put it to the test, in everyday life, in office, but also in game. So, what is it worth?

Rubber Base:

The MM700 3XL RGB mat from Corsair has a 4mm thick rubber base. This rubber clings well to all surfaces: raw wood desks, varnished wood or even melamine tops, like on the desk Flexispot EQ5. Its thickness of 4 mm will also allow to have something thick under the wrists. Thus, we will have less “cuts” related to the edge of the desk for example. Also, the MM700 3XL RGB holds well, even if you move your keyboard on it or navigate with the mouse. For us, it’s all good in this respect. Unlike the Roccat mat Sense Aimo XXL mat, Corsair offers a mat that lies flat on all its ends. As a reminder, on the Sense Aimo XXL or the Dark Rainbow XXL the seams were slightly raised at the ends. This was not very beautiful visually speaking and clearly a lack of finish.

The MM700 3XL RGB mat:

The latest mat from Corsair is very well made, as was the MM700 that we had previously tested. The fabric is pleasant under the fingers and the Corsair logo on the mat is very sober and gives a very classy effect to the mat. The carpet itself is completely black. We like it because it contrasts with the RGB LED strip around the mat.

Regarding the seams, they are neat and are, this time, white, unlike the Sense Aimo XXL which were black. As a result, they are much less visible once the mat is turned on.

Glide:

Obviously, we do not notice any sliding problems on this mouse pad. And this, regardless of the model. For this test, I had the opportunity to try it with two different mice, the MSI Clutch GM41 Lightweight Wireless and the brand new Katar Elite Wireless. Otherwise, the glide is smooth, more than with a MM350 Pro Extended XL which will tend to slow down the mice slightly. With a mouse with PTFE pads (like the latest Katar), it’s great, the mouse is less restrained. Same thing with the MSI mouse.

The USB offset

Like its previous model, Corsair has equipped its MM700 3XL RGB with a USB offset (addition of two USB) located on the right side of the mouse pad as well as the power supply of the latter. This is the best solution in my opinion and precisely in my case, since my PC is on my right. It is therefore more practical in my case. Indeed, Roccat and Empire Gaming had opted for the left. In our configuration, it was really not ideal. This offset is practical because it allows you to add USB ports to your PC. Moreover, it will only require one port to plug it in to add two more. This is very convenient, especially if you are short on USB.

The RGB:

The MM700 3XL RGB from Corsair has three customizable RGB zones (bottom of mat, top of mat, logo on power supply/USB remote). Everything can be changed with a button on this box or directly via the management software iCUE of the brand. As far as its RGB is concerned, Corsair’s mat sees its colors fade away at the opposite of the remote and the power supply. It’s a shame. We are far from the visual that could have had the first mat MM700.
