Nvidia and its partners: it’s getting hot?

0

The relations between Nvidia and its partners have become increasingly tense in recent weeks. The main reason would be the release of the future RTX 40 and the state of the current stocks at the brands. In some of these brands, a feeling of anger against Nvidia is even openly expressed. These brands blame Nvidia for having pushed the orders of GPUs in recent months to produce cards Turing (RTX 2000 series) and Ampere (RTX 3000 series). A situation that would generate today a significant overstock. Some brands would have gone to the front of the line to demand help from NVIDIA to get rid of the current graphics cards before launching the new generation Ada Lovelace (RTX 4000).

Brands put pressure on Nvidia to release RTX 40

Until now, it was Nvidia that dictated to the brands what they should do. But if we are to believe some leaks, some brands are putting pressure on the greens by strongly reducing their GPU order commitments to produce the next RTX 40 graphics cards. Some brands would condition their commitments on the next GPUs to a direct help from Nvidia to get out the current stocks of cards. Even if all this is not confirmed, some partners involved with Nvidia but also AMD and Intel, would bet more on AMD against the new generation of GPUs. According to MLID, a source at a brand said: We don’t want to buy any more Ampere or Turing GPUs until we clear our existing warehouses […] We’re willing to take a risk on Ada Lovelace GPU allocation if Nvidia doesn’t help us. These rumors confirm the feedback we have from European distributors. Nvidia has taken several actions to try to clear inventory and help launch the RTX 40 in October.
