Before the arrival of the Ryzen 9000, AMD was keen to launch two new processors: the Ryzen 7 5800XT and the Ryzen 9 5900XT. However, as we all know, brand marketing is often aggressive, and perhaps AMD was too aggressive on this occasion, placing its 5900XT ahead of Intel’s 13700K.

According to Hardware Unboxed, there’s a world of difference between the Ryzen 9 5900XT and the Core i7 13700K!

According to one of the processor’s presentation slides, AMD was highlighting the gaming performance of its new processor. According to the slide, the Reds’ CPU outperforms a 13700K – not by much, but still. At best, on Naraka Bladepoint, we can expect a 4% improvement. What’s not mentioned here, however, are the conditions under which the CPU was tested.

In any case, it turns out that in reality, AMD’s CPU lags well behind Intel’s 13700K (~34%) according to Hardware Unboxed‘s results. On an average of 13 games, the CPU displays a framerate of 120 FPS, equivalent to the Ryzen 9 5950X, while Intel’s 13700K is at 161 FPS. The same applies to the 1% low, where AMD achieves 82 FPS, one frame less than the 5950X, while the Core i7 in blue scores 107 FPS.

Although these results are clearly behind the Core i 13000 and Ryzen 7000, the 5900XT is based on the Zen 3 architecture, which is now almost 4 years old. In broad terms, this 5900XT is none other than a Ryzen 9 5950X, whose frequencies have been lowered by 100 MHz. The aim here is to offer an affordable 16-core alternative on a platform that saw the light of day in 2017.
