My Pentium 4 runs Windows 11, your Threadripper does not

The launch of Windows 11 has been the subject (as with every launch) of a wave of criticism mixing rational arguments and irrational diatribes. The crux of the debate is about the restrictions that Microsoft imposes to run its new OS. So obviously nobody would dare to consider installing Windows 11 on a Pentium 4… And yet. To feed the nervous crisis of those who try to run a PC that Microsoft declares “not compatible”, we’ll take a look at the twitto @Carlos_SM1995 who decided to play the sorcerers’ apprentice. Indeed, while some people can’t manage to install Windows 11 on a Threadripper 1950X PC for example, friend Carlos manages to do something that honestly seems impossible in this context.

Windows 11 Pentium 4 This smart guy installed and activated Windows 11 on a machine equipped with an Intel Pentium 4 661 processor with Hyper-Threading, an antique that is more than 15 years old. This chip is not listed in the list of Microsoft-compatible processors they created before the release of the operating system, making it technically incompatible hardware. And for good reason, since before the launch of Windows 11, Microsoft had asked all users to ensure that TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) was enabled in order to install their new system. The most comical part is the fact that our adventurer continues to receive updates via Windows Update after having succeeded in his feat. Obviously to achieve this feat, Carlos disabled several features of Windows 11 so that it could run on his antique. It’s certainly fun to do and it must clearly upset a lot of other users. However, it’s not really tenable on a daily basis. See Carlos’ video here:
