Memory prices up 80%? Samsung refutes!

Recently, rumors began to spread about a massive price increase for Samsung memory. Fortunately, the Korean brand quickly denied it, as the rumor seemed to indicate that prices would increase by 80%, no less. While 80% seems spectacular, it’s important to remember that the current shortage makes memory increasingly difficult to find: demand exceeds supply!

An 80% price increase for Samsung memory: it’s not true!

No, there will be no 80% increase in the price of Samsung memory, and fortunately so. This rumor originated from an X account specializing in investment, which shared a document containing a statement from an employee of DS Giheung ( Samsung’s Device Solutions campus) indicating this record increase. Since the account had some credibility, the rumor caught on and spread. On the other hand, Samsung reacted quickly by denying the rumor. So there will be no sudden price increase overnight, at least for now.

However, it cannot be ruled out that prices will continue to rise. Indeed, the memory supply chain has been under pressure for several months, and this is having an impact on prices. Demand for AI hardware is very strong, and memory manufacturers are allocating part of their production chain to memory used in this field. However, this does not seem to be enough, as there has been no improvement in prices.

Investments have been made in the sector, notably by Micron, which has begun construction of a new factory. But the effects will only be felt in the coming months/years. In the meantime, we have divergent analyses between some players indicating that this situation will continue until 2028 and others who believe that prices will stabilize in the coming months.
