Little by little, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is arriving in stores. Of course, these are the usual pre-launch trade appearances. As ever, we’re back with placeholder prices that are closer to reality than they were a few years ago.

Ryzen 7 9850X3D: the same, but with 400 MHz more!

Ryzen 7 9850X3DIn fact, if you already own a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, you have no legitimate interest in rushing out to buy this Ryzen 7 9850X3D. In fact, it shares a similar configuration with its two predecessors, featuring an eight-core Zen5 CPU with hyperthreading. This processor is also equipped with 3D V-Cache memory on its CCD, providing 96 MB of L3. By default, a Ryzen CCD contains 32 MB of L3 cache.

Last but not least, the major evolution of this CPU concerns its operating speed, which rises to 5.6 GHz in turbo mode, compared with 5.2 GHz for the original 9800X3D. On the other hand, despite this increase in frequency, the thermal envelope remains at 120W, so there’s no difference here.

Some rumors point to a CPU whose dies have been carefully selected, notably to improve memory support, since a screenshot shows this model running with DDR5 9800 MT/s. This remains to be confirmed, and we have some reservations about these claims. If AMD uses the same memory controller as on these Ryzen 9000s, memory support isn’t going to increase overnight, especially at such high frequencies.

Ryzen 7 9850X3D vente

Be that as it may, some retailers are already listing this processor: one puts forward a price tag of $553.09. An invoice that places this newcomer some $70 above the 9800X3D when it was launched. Alternatively, another Swiss retailer, Orderflow.ch, lists this model at CHF 473.55, i.e. 20% more than the original 9800X3D.
