From Noctua, we find an FAQ that indicates, in essence, immediate compatibility of its fans with socket LGA-1954. As a reminder, this is Intel’s forthcoming platform. In short, this is good news, although it’s expected, as there’s no extra request to make on your side if you’ve got an old Austrian heatsink!
LGA-1954: Noctua fans already compatible?
In simple terms, LGA-1954 is the future socket to be deployed by Intel to accommodate Nova Lake processors. Inevitably, with each new platform, there are concerns about its support for CPU cooling systems. For an ordinary brand, this is a real issue, but not for Noctua, which provides impeccable service in this area. The company even goes so far as to supply a new mounting mechanism free of charge if necessary, and with proof of purchase of course.
The good news here is that there’s no need to request new hardware from the brand. The company’s FAQ states that if your heatsink is already LGA-1851-compatible, it will also be compatible with the future Blues’ socket. From now on, this means only one thing: no change in dimensions or mounting hole position for this new platform. Indeed, Noctua indicates that you’ll simply have to follow the mounting instructions for the current platform, using the same components. We describe how to do this in our test of the NH-D15 G2.
Virtually any heatsink in the brand’s catalog is compatible. From the very recent NH-D15 G2 to the venerable NH-C14S, not forgetting the NH-U12S, for example. If you have an old heatsink, you can always request a mounting kit. And if you no longer have proof of purchase, you can always buy them on Amazon, for example.
