Here at the editors, ever since the disappointing launch of the Intel Core Ultra 200S processors, we’ve been waiting to hear from Intel. In fact, while our tests showed an improvement in most benchmarks and in terms of power consumption, this was not at all the case when it came to gaming. It has to be said that the performance is not at all up to scratch, since the i9-14900K is still more powerful and, above all, this leaves plenty of room for the new range of AMD Ryzen 9000 processors, with the arrival of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in particular.

Our colleagues at Videocardz have shared a video from Hothardware in which Robert Hallock, Intel’s vice-president and general manager, answers questions about the disappointing gaming performance that the press highlighted at the launch. He admits that not everything went according to plan, and that the performance obtained by journalists did not match the expectations communicated by Intel. The good news is that Intel has identified the problems within the BIOS. We should be able to expect a patch in late November or early December to restore the expected performance of these Core Ultra 200S. It remains to be seen whether Intel is trying to gain time with the launch of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D or whether we’ll get a fix soon. We’ll know in a few weeks’ time.
Our colleagues at Hothardware tried to find out more about the lifespan of socket LGA-1851, but this question again went unanswered.
